OK - Either way, no one really likes to be pushed but knowing that there are two types of motivation and which one best suits us will be really helpful. One is a push from external forces like the alarm clock, a spouse, the start time of the workday, the mortgage, and the bills. Another external force is a negative health report from the doctor's office. On the other hand, desires, needs, wisdom, inspiration, vision, hunches, and purpose are all forms of forces that come from within. Whenever we are motivated by forces of life where we 'have-to-do', we risk losing our passion for the things we 'get-to-do'. We all have to go to work...we all have bills and probably a mortgage as these things are an inextricable part of life, however, the external forces can oftentimes overshadow the internal, and if we're not careful, we can stuff our needs deep down inside. We all have a choice, or 'get-to' work on being mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually sound, but the stress of life can sometimes reduce our motivation to follow through and attain these ends. I just uploaded this short video on motivation. I recorded this in 2019 but the principles are still relevant. In it, I offer you a simple exercise to help remind you of what you already know...WHY we must listen to, honor, and take action on our internal needs. I know it's early and you may not be able to watch the video so I'll break down what's in the video: Whatever we 'have-to-do' in life, is much more enjoyable, effective, and efficient when our mind, body, emotions, and spirit are nurtured. I don't know any better way to holistically care for ourselves, then through the practice of yoga. Listen, we all have circumstances where we simply can not make it to the mat, but those should be few, and far between. Here is a Facebook Live 60 min Yin Yoga Class we just shot if you can't make it to a class. When we lose our motivation to practice, and the stress of our 'have-to-do's' is too heavy, the things that really add value to our well-being fall by the wayside. One of the most powerful motivators I know of is to remember our WHY. We are attracted to the yoga mat for basically, four reasons: Mental Emotional Spiritual Physical In the video I ask you to write these 4 areas down on a piece of paper and to ask yourself why it's important to be: -Mentally clear -Emotionally stable -Spiritually connected -Physically fit Take a moment now to open up your notes on your phone and do the exercise. If you're feeling low motivation, you may be able to use this exercise to get you going again. If your practice is consistent, this will act as reinforcement. You probably know by now that yoga is more helpful than you can imagine...don't ya? Talk soon, Ro
